  Research Highlights
BACKGROUND: Co-transplantation of fetal spinal cord cells and autologous activated Schwann cells was used to treat spinal cord injury in adult Wistar rats. Histological and immunohistochemical techniques were used to observe the newly generated synaptic development of fetal spinal cord cells in the injured spinal cavity.

  Research Highlights
BACKGROUND: Using stem cell biology and tissue engineering, rat muscle-derived stem cells (MDSC) were in vitro isolated, cultured and induced to neural cells. With adenovirus as carrier, MDSCs carrying green fluorescent protein were transplanted into injured spinal cord. Behavior scoring and fluorescence microscopic observation demonstrated MDSC can repair spinal cord injury, and function as seed cells in neural tissue engineering to repair spinal cord injury.

  Research Highlights
BACKGROUND:β-mercaptoethanol induces in vitro, adult, adipose-derived, stromal cells (ADSCs) to differentiate into neurons. Results of morphological and ultrastructural changes show that ADSCs exhibit a typical neuronal morphology after induction for 5 hours with a large number of characteristic Nissl bodies and mitochondria, demonstrating these neuronal-like cells have some similar structures of neurons.

  Research Highlights
BACKGROUND: Since 1990, Nature firstly reported that activin A as neuron survival molecule can maintain the survival of in vitro cultured hippocampal neurons. In 2008, Neuroscience reported that activin A can promote neuron Ca++ current. In 2006, our laboratory reported that activin A promoted the growth of chick embryo spinal cord dorsal root ganglion nervous process and inhibited NO secretion. This study firstly reported that activin A can maintain the survival of cortical neurons of mice cultured in vitro for a long time, and firstly observed promoting effects of activin A on nerve cell voltage dependence sodium current using patch clamp. The present study not only discovered new effects of activin A, but also explained the mechanism of activin A affecting neuron function by regulating VIP and iNOS expression.

  Research Highlights
BACKGROUND: The present study utilized self-made multi-channel low-frequency dysphagia treatment apparatus to treat ischemic stroke and observed neurological behavior, angiopoietin-1/tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin and epidermal growth factor homology domains 2 expression changes in focal brain ischemic rats to investigate the protective effect of this treatment apparatus from functional improvement and angiogenesis aspects.

  Research Highlights
BACKGROUND: This study used gaze orientation attention cue paradigm and event-related potential and clarified the dispute and inconsistent conclusion addressing neuromechanism of attention processing by reflective attention cue and localization task, and simultaneously found that the attention processing under reflective attention condition was similar to voluntary attention neuromechanism, and found that anterior directing attention negativity and early directing attention negativity are important in reflective attention.

  Research Highlights
BACKGROUND: ①Based on cortical electrostimulation, the new method of functional localization and conclusion in the nerve cortex were characterized by fast, exact, non-invasion to cerebral cortex, avoiding secondary surgery. ②This study introduced feature extraction and wavelet analysis of classification in the method of motor area functional localization and verified its feasibility and features.
