  Research Highlights
Huanglian Jiedu decoction (HLJDD) can improve cerebral blood flow, reduce the damage of brain tissue due to lipid peroxidation and improve disorders in energy metabolism in APP/PS1 double transgenic mouse. It can ameliorate Alzheimer's disease-induced brain injury, which presents certain correlations with dose.

  Research Highlights
The present study was the first to observe the effect of Curcumin on increased expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and nestin in the hippocampal CA1 area of rats following chronic cerebral ischemia.

  Research Highlights
(1) Regarding the microvascular morphology, quantity, and the resulting neuronal damage, the neuroprotection effect of Chinese medicine prescription BYHWD on cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury was determined by use of laser Doppler, the tannic acid-ferric chloride mordant method, hematoxylin-eosin staining and electron microscopy. (2) Experiment found that BYHWD pretreatment could enhance the ability of capillary stress, relieve microvascular spasm and reduce the damage, thus increasing microvessel density and microvessel area ratio, protect blood brain barrier and inhibit brain edema.

  Research Highlights
This study verified that Toutongning Capsule upregulated proenkephalin mRNA expression in the midbrain of a rat migraine headache model, increased met-enkephalin and leucine-enkephalin contents, affected the function of the endogenous pain modulatory system, and treated migraine headaches.
